About EuroFEL
EuroFEL is part of the ESFRI Roadmap since 2006. The preparatory phase of EuroFEL
(IRUVX-PP) prepared the establishment of the EuroFEL Consortium to link FEL &
SPS facilities in Europe closer together. IRUVX-PP has been funded by the European
Commission under FP7 from April 2008 to March 2011.
The main objective of this work package is the development of structures that allow efficient training of personnel and facilitate their exchange among the partner facilities. Human resources are the key elements in the achievement, operation and development of each individual FEL facility within the EuroFEL Consortium. Key knowledge and abilities are being built up at several locations but human resources are limited within Europe and a collaborative effort in key areas would greatly improve the quality of the activities. By building a system allowing for easy exchange of these resources, significant savings in time and people could be gained. Such a system should include not only a “catalogue” of available resources but also a common framework on how this exchange should be handled in a slipstreamed and similar way by all partners (WP4.1 to WP4.3).
A connected issue is to train the staff efficiently (WP4.4 to WP4.5). This is not only crucial for the staff to be exchanged but also for the local staff. By identifying key technical and administrative areas in which joint training can be made and also defining timescales for such training more efficient progress will be achieved. Related issues are hiring of new staff and career development. Through a joint approach in hiring staff a more attractive and competitive field will be presented. Through a joint view on career and career development, the individual staff, whether researcher, technician or administrator, can find a wider range of future career paths.
