About EuroFEL
EuroFEL is part of the ESFRI Roadmap since 2006. The preparatory phase of EuroFEL
(IRUVX-PP) prepared the establishment of the EuroFEL Consortium to link FEL &
SPS facilities in Europe closer together. IRUVX-PP has been funded by the European
Commission under FP7 from April 2008 to March 2011.
The basic research and development areas for individual FEL facilities have been addressed by the EUROFEL Design Study, ending at the end of 2007. Building on these successful developments and the complementary expertise of the partners, the present work package focuses on technical preparatory work that is of critical importance for the timely and costeffective construction of components which are mandatory for the stable operation of all new FEL sources. They include an optical synchronisation system with 10 femtosecond precision (WP8.1), diagnostics and feedback systems for high precision control and stabilization of the longitudinal electron bunch profile and its arrival time (WP8.2) and a joint approach to seeding with High Harmonic Generation (HHG) lasers.
Subtasks:
WP8.1 10 femtosecond timing and synchronization Responsible: DESY
8.1.1 Finalization of 10 femtosecond synchronization system at FLASH and long term
reliability test
8.1.2 Component ageing and reliability studies
8.1.3 Small scale optical synchronization test at an ERL
8.1.4 Direct seeding of Ti:Sapphire amplifiers by the timing pulses
8.1.5 Optical synchronization for laser cross-correlation and pump-probe experiments at SLS
WP8.2 Feedback and associated diagnostics Responsible: STFC
8.2.1 Compression control in the frequency domain
8.2.2 On-line bunch profiling in the time domain
8.2.3 Development of an 11 GHz X-band lineariser
8.2.4 Software development
