About EuroFEL
EuroFEL is part of the ESFRI Roadmap since 2006. The preparatory phase of EuroFEL (IRUVX-PP) prepared the establishment of the EuroFEL Consortium to link FEL & SPS facilities in Europe closer together. IRUVX-PP has been funded by the European Commission under FP7 from April 2008 to March 2011.

The Socio-Economic Relevance of Research Infrastructures
ERF Workshop

DESY Hamburg, Germany

Research Infrastructures are an important cornerstone in the European Research and Innovation Area. They are instrumental for the advancement of science and stimulate through their excellence in research important innovation, learning and education processes that are most relevant for society and economy. This ERF Workshop will bring together experts from research infrastructures, science, policy makers and industry to discuss the many dimensions of socio-economic relevance of Research Infrastructures. It is the main purpose of this workshop to record experiences and real cases, refining to best practices, and to formulate proposals for the broader European community. Apart from economic returns and links to the innovation systems a focus on social, cultural and public aspects is given.

X-Ray Detectors. SRI 2012 Satellite Meeting

Zurich, Switzerland

This workshop is the 3rd in a series of workshops previously held at the ESRF in 2008 and at SOLEIL in 2010. The objective of the workshop is to provide an international platform for an in-depth discussion of both the application and instrumentation aspects of the combination of in-situ optical spectroscopy and X-ray methods. In recent years, many synchrotron-based research fields have seen an increase in applications taking advantage of the complementary information provided by UV/Vis and IR absorption, fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy. The main advantages of such a combination are the: (i) Gain of complementary information under identical experimental conditions, (ii) Minimization of systematic errors that result from sequential measurements, (iii) Easier understanding of fast rate processes, detection and manipulation of kinetic intermediates via complementary but independent observations, (iv) Observation and avoidance of radiation damage effects.

SRI 2012

Lyon, France

The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and Synchrotron SOLEIL will jointly host the 11th International Conference on Synchrotron Radiation Instrumentation (SRI 2012). This event will take place in July 2012 in the Lyon Convention Centre, a world-class venue for international conferences in the heart of France’s second-biggest city.

SRI is the largest international forum for exchange and collaboration among scientists involved in development of new concepts, technologies and instruments related to synchrotron radiation research.

The ESRF and Synchrotron SOLEIL are established members of this community and will build on thirty years of achievement by fellow light sources having hosted these prestigious events since 1981.

SRI 2012 will feature a balanced programme combining scientific talks, personal exchanges and visits. We will make significant efforts to attract young scientists and newcomers, and put to work a new approach to involve industry and business partners.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to SRI2012 in Lyon!

Science with seeded FEL beams

European XFEL, DESY Campus, Hamburg, Germany

While SASE radiation from X-ray free-electron lasers is almost fully coherent in the transverse direction the longitudinal coherence is limited. Recently, a new self-seeding scheme has been proposed that will result in Fourier limited hard X-ray pulses with bandwidths in the 1e-4 – 1e-5 range. Experimental tests at LCLS of this seeding scheme validated the principle and in parallel ideas are being developed to achieve the same goal for soft X-rays. The workshop will address the novel scientific frontiers that can be explored with seeded FEL radiation in the soft and hard X-ray regimes. Particularly, applications in atomic and molecular spectroscopies, inelastic scattering, diffractive imaging, XPCS, and scattering with coherent beams will be covered.

We invite all interested scientists to participate in this workshop.
Registration is now open at:
